About Me

My love of travel first stirred before I had even left my native Scotland. My Dad used to take me down to Princes Street Gardens where I would gaze at the trains rumbling out of Edinburgh Waverley. School holidays were spent escaping to Scottish islands as I was weaned on stories of my dad’s adventures on the yacht he built himself: Sisu.

I’ve now made over 500 trips. My travel writing has taken me to over 100 countries, to over 400 cities,  coast to coast through Australia three times and even across the world 15,000km by train from Edinburgh to Hong Kong. And back again! I’ve survived eating puffer fish, emergency landings and, yes, a few nefarious bars.

Nasi Goreng and Whale Sharks

I’ve been lucky enough to dine in three star Michelin restaurants and stay at some of the best hotels on the planet, but I’m equally happy swimming with whale sharks, sifting through markets and savouring nasi goreng from a street stall.

Today I’m based on the outskirts of Edinburgh and split my time between travelling around every nook and cranny of Scotland – genuinely the most remarkable country I have ever been to – and forays further afield.
