Train travel for me is the best way of getting around, instantly more romantic and fun than flying or taking a dreaded bus ride.
I have travelled on trains all over the world and it always surprises me that Scots never think of popping off to the continent on the train. There is a massive network of high speed trains in Europe, which link up with the Eurostar from London. Hop on a train in Edinburgh and you can be in Paris by teatime without the stresses and waits you suffer hassling your way through an airport.
With all that in mind I’ve written a piece for The Sunday Post on exploring France by rail, travelling out from Scotland. I hope you enjoy it and that it might inspire you to let the train take the strain for a change.
