When I first started, the role of a travel writer was relatively simple. I wrote for a flurry of newspapers and magazines across the world. Despite the arrival of digital, print is still a massive part of my business.
I write regular pieces for Scottish newspapers such as The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday, the Sunday Post and the Scottish Sun. I have also been published in all of the major UK newspapers, such as The Times, Guardian and the Independent on Sunday, plus newspapers in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
My work has also appeared in hundreds of magazine across five continents, such as the Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Group Leisure and Upward Curve. I also work for a number of non-UK magazines, including airline magazines like Emirates.
On each of my numerous trips I always generate at least one newspaper commission, often multiple commissions, plus magazine coverage too.
Since 1998 I have been a member of the British Guild of Travel Writers and normally attend both their annual pre-World Travel Market dinner at The Savoy and the AGM in January.
