I’ve been lucky enough to cruise on countless ships around the world as a travel writer, from the sun kissed charms of the Mediterranean and the icebergs of Greenland, then on to river cruising from Germany to Burma. There have been many highlights, but for me one country offers the finest cruising in the world and that is my native Scotland.
I’m being deadly serious here. I’ve been on over a dozen cruises around Scotland and there really is no beating what the country offers, from its epic wildlife (from sea eagles to orcas), to its graceful smaller cruise ships and the endless charms of its 800+ islands.
As I’ve been on cruises with all the main operators in Scotland the Herald asked me to put together a round-up that introduced readers both to the delights of cruising Scottish waters and also what the different cruise ship companies offer. The PDFs of the article are below. Happy sailing!
