Forgive the presumptuous title of this one please and stick with me. It’s just that Scotland has so many islands, which I don’t think that many people realise. To be honest until I wrote the National Geographic Guide to Scotland I didn’t even know we had over 800 islands spread around what makes up over 10% of Europe’s coastline.
I’ve been lucky in my job as a travel writer to get out to around 100 of these isles, far beyond the usual suspects like Mull and Skye. I like nothing more than sharing with people what is out there and hopefully inspiring a few of you to set out on island adventures of your own around what for me is the most spectacular coastline on the planet.
I’ve put together a blog for the British Guild of Travel Writers that showcases five islands that most of you will never have set foot on. Do and I guarantee you won’t regret it, well maybe for a moment if a territorial bonxie whips you right off your feet!
